Lightweight Solution

New Natural Resources HQ Requires Versatile Materials

A modern 20-story office tower in Downtown Sacramento will soon serve as the State Natural Resources Headquarters.  Building in such tight urban areas commonly creates challenges for crews that lay the groundwork for these beautiful structures to go vertical.

In order to expedite project construction, address poor site access, and mitigate for high ground water, the contractor selected to pour an innovative combination of pervious and non-pervious lightweight cellular concrete to fill the voids around foundation walls.

This flow-able, self-compacting, and self-leveling material effectively solved the difficult parameters encountered.  The project is set to be completed in 2020 and will house key State of California agencies and groups.

In order to speed up project construction, reduce disturbances, and ensure no damage, the contractor is using lightweight cellular concrete - a less dense, easily pump-able concrete solution that eliminates the need for compaction of imported materials.
